When ever I watch celebrities or any famous people explain that they are blessed it always brings up the same question - is it a blessing to be well know like they all say it is? To be blessed is a biblical term so the other question is, is this a blessing from God in their view or just terminology.
From a yogic stand point of view anything extreme is not good so anyone who has and receives that much attention from people is going to find it very hard to find any balance in their life. Attention has a lot of energy attached to it and when that amount of energy is directed at one person, from many thousands or even millions it creates a very disturbing affect in the individual. Typically as a person is not very well known they go out and interact with all people on some level receiving and sharing in energy from all walks of life without any particular reason or excessive attention.
It is when a person excludes themselves from society as well known people do on a day to day basis and either receive energy by what people are saying in the form of gossip about them or directly once in a while every time they come into contact with the public. Imagine the rush or high when a rock star stands in front of 50,000 people and they all put their attention on them, shouting and screaming. They describe this as a rush but it becomes overwhelming to the senses as they become excessively stimulated, not to mention how the ego thought starts to grow and make a person feel ’special.’
Is this really a blessing?

Yogi Cameron, thanx for this tricky halloweeny candy.Nice & chewy, all stuck between my teeth! My senses are eluding me.I guess you’d tell me it is a good thing when i become senseless.
Celebrity being synonymous to fame is also a situation life-style which has to be handled. An energy rush also has to be dealt with and handled. How one handles it depends on one’s nature, character and life-style and most of all on one’s mind. Our mind will form a lot of things. So when one know’s to balance and control the mind and the physical body, then one should be able to handle several situations.Having poise is another way of formulating it.And how does one have poise? It is cultivated and nurtured in one.
There are similar situations in life, but on a different level, for example, celebrities who cannot handle the pressure and take to drugs as a means of escapism and people who are not famous, ordinary people in daily life who are in life situations which threaten them in very pressuring ways and as a means of escape because they cannot handle it,they too take to drugs and alcohol. There is no blessing or curse. It is about one’s own mind. How well can one deal with a situation and handle it.The same thing on different levels.Once it may come to one in the form of fame and at another time it comes to one in the form of an excruciating life experience in the life of an ordinary person.
Those celebrities who say they are blessed, because they feel blessed - then why not!? Why shouldn’t they say they are blessed if they feel blessed? They are no less human being than me or him or her who is not famous. They too have limitless ability like every being to feel and be blessed. There are several celebrities for example who have found their soulmate and feel trully blessed. So it is their right too,to say they are blessed.
Getting attention or being admired does not only pertain to fame.At both ends it is just the extent and intensity to which it happens.Similarly being gossiped about and being notorious is also not only about people who are famous. It also happens to ordinary people in day to day life.In a village or a small provincial town such behaviours are very distinct. It is just human behavoiur. It happens on any scale.
We are always interacting with other people.Even celebrities are interacting with other people.Just on a different level.Everything cannot be on the same level. And sometimes one does not even have to be famous in order to have to live by excluding oneself from society. These are life-situations and they happen on every level.Whether famous or ordinary person, both can experience a similar life-situation.
Okay - i agree, attention has a lot of energy attached to it.But so does any other feeling like hate, jealousy, deprivation,to ignore and simply love.We all seek inspiration and we love to be inspired. It is a dead and decaying person,a person who is deadly depressed, who does not seek inspiration and who does not get inspired. We all have different sources of inspiration. And a totally healthy person will derive it’s inspiration from nature and will also look at other beings in it’s environment for inspiration. That is when we have idols we look up to.And even looking for inspiration has to be balanced and not become excessively obsessed by another being or even by nature or anything.Balance is what counts and obsession is the deadly poison. The excess.
When we look for inspiration it is because we grow each time we are inspired. But when we are obsessed, then we get stuck and become sick because our mind stagnates and begins to create negative energy which affects our whole being.
So,wether celebrity or ordianry person,we have to balance ourselves. We have to grow constantly and simultaneoulsy balance ourselves.
About a rockstar who stands infront of a screaming crowd of 50,000 people, maybe they feel excited. It is an exalting experience. They would have to balance themselves before and after that. They would have to have a very strong energy field to be able to handle all that energy rush.So it depends on the rockstar,on their individual as to waht kind of a life-style the lead in order to handle that kind of energy.
There is only one true thing that can ever make any being whether celebrity or ordinary person, feel special, and that is love.If a person feels real love,it is bound to feel special. All else relates only to the ego.
And when we feel real love and it flows through us,then we also stream and radiate love through our energy fields. Then we are blessed.
One has to make it a blessing. And that is an individual thing.Whatever level the life-situation comes to one, whether in the form of fame or in the form of a mundane, common life,it is up to the individual to make it a blessing. When we feel blessed, all is blessed around us too.
