I had Lili a reader ask about sweating and air conditioners. She asked;
“Yogi Cameron,
Could you blog about why people sweat or don’t sweat. I listened to a bit on the radio show in which you were featured, however, I don’t think you got to complete your thoughts. Could you write more about the effects of air conditioning and how it relates to the body’s sweat response? What is wrong with the body if one does not sweat very much even when physically exerted? Thanks so much for your help! Namaste Lili”
Some people don’t sweat a lot and some do. This mainly has to do with how much toxins need to leave the body and if you have too much heat in the system. This is determined by your diet, namely what goes into the body orally, what goes through the body from the environment (skin and nose) and of course what is going through the mind-are you peaceful or nervous.
People with more Pitta dosha (element of fire) tend to sweat a lot as this element when unbalanced creates more heat in the body and mind. These are people who are very ambitious, drink alcohol, use a lot of hot pungent spices, and eat a lot of meat to name a few traits. Similarly people who are very heavy tend to sweat a lot because they have too many toxins and fat in their system, which the body tries to rid itself of through the act of sweating.
When hot the bodies response is to sweat as this is the mechanism with which the body cools itself down. This is ‘natural air conditioning’ as the body secretes a film of water over the skin and the air’s natural movement over the skin helps to cool it down. When you use air conditioning the skin is artificially kept cool and the body does not sweat even when it needs to. Then when you go outside and it is the normal temperature, the glands start to work excessively because the body goes from one extreme temperature to another. This is disease forming. This is why the gym, bars, offices, restaurants, airplanes etc are such negative environments to be in because of the air conditioning or recycled artificial air being ingested.
Also, as the skin is the largest organ of the body its job is to expel toxins from the systems and it does this by means of sweating, which releases unwanted foreign materials from the blood or any other organs. So when you drink too much water the body’s response is to sweat it out. If you have too many toxins in the system it will sweat it out. If you take pharmaceutical drugs the body will sweat more. If you eat more sugar the body will sweat more. There are many reasons.
The other thing sweating does is to maintain the skins luster and natural shine, which is an important part of skin health and its youthfulness.
The best thing to do is watch when you sweat the most and how it smells. This will indicate whether it came from food intake, thought patterns or environmental toxins. There are many factors to sweating a lot or not, it is very personal to each individual, in the environment you are in, what activity you are partaking in and how your mental state is.
I hope this offers a little insight.

Hi Yogi Cameron,
It’s always good to know atleast a few details about what goes on in our bodies.Sometime back you said , : ” Under the arms should have nothing on it , ” - since i had asked you or mentioned about using mineral deo sticks under the arms.Well - is it really so that one should not use anything under the arms? I can’t do without it ~with the exception of days when i give myself a shamanic treatment.
Another question i have is about ‘ hot yoga ‘.I did it once and i was sick for two weeks after that because i got sinus problems. Is it a healthy form of yoga to exert the body under high temperature and sweating? And is it healthy to sweat in a sauna and steam bath? Hey,Yogi Cameron - if you answer my questions then thanx ~ i know energy exchange is not free of charge.

A question :p How can i convince my sister, Ning and my best friends, Aom and Moni, to stop taking sleeping pills?
I take Protein, Bio C plus, and i need to be better with chanting and meditating another two nights with me and diamond Buddha within me :p
What should i think or not think to have the best time myself being in the big house, dark and can be noisy when the leaves touch the roof (hope not for another two nights), Cameron? :p i chant with word, Summa-Arahung :p
Thank u for being here and your support, with love&Nirvana Bon

Bon,
I so appreciate your sweet nature! You are a gift!
Yogi Cameron,
Thanks for the insight in response to my query. The reason you offered for my lack of sweating seems consistent with my wind element being excessive, no? I believe I am a vata, so it makes sense. My question now is SHOULD I sweat, or is it just my body’s nature to not rid itself of its water. Should I drink more water?

Hi Yogi Cameron,
Whenever I stay in my office with air-conditioning, I’ll feel my skin dry, coming with headache and stiffness all over my body joints. I never use air-conditioning in my house. Is it right if I drink a lot of hot/warm water whenever I feel the those aches? Is it something wrong about my body for feeling those symptoms? Peoples around me seem never had a problem with it. It seems like I don’t have much options, have to respect my colleagues not to switch off the air-cond.And I don’t sweat a lot even after working hours.
thanks .♫

People of Vata (air) imbalance don’t sweat much whereas the element of fire and too much earth make people sweat toxins and heat more. Vata imbalance make the body more achey and stiff. If you are eating naturally for your constitution and it is in balance, the body will sweat when it needs and it will not when it is not necessary.

Thanks Yogi Cameron,
Remember that I was asking about knees pain? Even I’m still feel the pain on both my knees, but its less swollen now. Everyday I sleep early, more fruits and vege , drink only warm water. I feel much relief now, thankQ very much. I would love to write on to Private Consultant/ Costs and Inquiries to let you know my situation, but I guess I was worrying about something…
And Yogi Cameron, do u think a person with Arthritis can fully recovered if they try to eat healthy? Is it possible? I have a colleague where she’s a serious RA patient, she loves coffee and spicy foods, heavy meat eater. She’s going to have a surgery soon, but doctor said that she might end up sitting on a wheel chair. Doctors said there’s nothing she can do.
Much respect to you, thanks .
